Overview
The Misrach Centre is a school of apprenticeship and rehabilitation for the blind, deaf-mute and Disabled. It was established in the city of Addis Ababa in the mid 1980s by the SENM (Swiss Evangelical Nile Mission), who have been working since 1950 in the countries situated along the river Nile in the fields of health, education, rehabilitation and agriculture. In 1962, SENM was invited to work in Eritrea, eventually expanding its activities into Ethiopia. The Mission began its works in the area encouraging Christians to work for the benefit of the poor, the sick and the disabled. According to the statistics of the United Nations, in the developing countries one person out of ten is handicapped. In Ethiopia there are 6 millions of disabled and the majority of these live in conditions of tremendous poverty.
