Overview
To create an environment that enables poor women to play key role in the social, economic and political affairs of Ethiopia. Women Support Association (WSA) focuses on the economic and social empowerment of women through self-help groups, coaching and establishing women institutions. The organization received a $299,989.64 grant to accomplish their Social Accountability programs in the target sectors of Education, Health, Water and Sanitation. The specific Social Accountability tools used by WSA over the next two years are the Community Score Card and. WSA works in 3 woredas in Oromiya (Ejere, Dendi, Toke Kutaye), 1 woreda in Amhara (Efratanagidim) and 1 woreda in Addis Ababa City Administration (Kirkos Woreda 02). WSA and its partner organizations, Live Addis Ethiopia (LIVE) and Oromo Self Help Organization (OSHO) are implementing the Social Accountability projects together. The four organizations aim to improve proactive engagement between local government institutions and citizens to ensure responsive basic service delivery to marginalized groups and communities through transparent and decentralized woreda level planning, budgeting and monitoring. Additionally, capacity trainings will improve the technical capacity of the community, government and other stakeholders for responsive and accountable public basic service delivery. The projects will benefit 504,810 in the long run. Women Support Association was established in 1995 to improve the wellbeing of poor women in particular, and the community in general. WSA employs innovative and cost effective approaches to help poor women realize their potential to attain significant improvement in their lives.
