Family Empowerment
Empowering families in Ethiopia Vulnerable families are often forced to make desperate decisions just to survive. It is a broken cycle that continues from generation to generation and without intervention has little hope of changing.
WE HELP VULNERABLE FAMILIES BREAK THIS CYCLE OF POVERTY AND DESPERATION SO THEIR CHILDREN CAN GROW UP TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT LEADERS IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES.
We are breaking this cycle through a four-step approach:
1. SMALL BUSINESS TRAINING FOR SINGLE MOTHERS.
2. MENTORS AND ONGOING SUPPORT FOR VULNERABLE FAMILIES THROUGH THE LOCAL CHURCH.
3. SUPPLEMENTAL FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR 2 YEARS AS THESE FAMILIES BEGIN THEIR SMALL BUSINESS.
4. ONGOING EDUCATIONAL (AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN.
Moriya Ethiopian Accessories
WE HELPED A GROUP OF SINGLE, ETHIOPIAN MOTHERS START A FOR-PROFIT BUSINESS IN ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA.
With little formal education, no vocational skills and many little mouths to feed, these women had very few options to provide for their children. So few options, in fact, that they had resorted to prostitution out of sheer desperation.
MORIYA ETHIOPIAN ACCESSORIES WAS CREATED TO PROVIDE THESE FAMILIES WITH DIGNIFIED, SUSTAINABLE WORK TO BREAK THE GENERATIONAL CYCLES OF POVERTY.
In Moriyas infancy, we trained these mothers in basic skills like cutting with scissors, purchasing raw materials, sewing and even selling internationally. The dignity and hope they develop through this business is helping them raise their children and give them their own hope for the future.
TODAY, THEIR BEAUTIFULLY HANDCRAFTED PRODUCTS ARE FOR SALE THROUGH LSM.
