Overview
Jhpiego began working in Ethiopia in 2003 with funding from the U.S. Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With local offices employing more than 130 in-country staff, it continues to expand its partnerships in Ethiopia to respond to the countries ongoing health needs. Jhpiego currently works with a diverse funding base to support the Federal Ministry of Health and other partners to address the challenges of maternal and newborn mortality, human resources for health development and HIV/AIDS through the following programs:
The Strengthening Human Resources for Health project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)
The Maternal and Child Survival Program, also funded by USAID
Strengthening Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Health (Phase II), funded by the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF)
Empowering New Generations to Improve Nutrition and Economic Opportunity program, funded by USAID and led by Save the Children
The Technical Assistance for the Transition of Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Programs and Medical Education to Ethiopia project, funded by PEPFAR through CDC and Columbia University
